about
A song that started as a tribute Gram Parsons... and while in a lot of ways, it still is an homage to him and the impact his music had on our band, it became more about moments, people, and things lost to time. There's someone different on my mind, every time we play this one. It's a special song for us and one that kind of came alive on its own. So while we owe a big thank you to Gram Parsons, this one goes out to anyone missing someone or something. We're all just fellow passengers to the grave.
lyrics
Fire burning, beneath the desert sun
Fire burning, on the tip of my tongue
We missed our chance to catch the rain
All's left are tears and red wine stains.
As the fallen angel's wings get clipped,
a drop of gold hits my fingertips.
Now there's a cowboy with a hole in his chest.
A prayer for the cursed is a prayer for the blessed
Sing me away, among the trees
Sing me away, back to 1973
Between your devil, and the deep blue sea
I'll sing for you, if you'll sing for me
This country road's got overgrown
with penchants for glory, denim, and lost souls.
Now I'm just looking for someone to trust
before these guitar strings all turn to rust
Sing me away, among the trees
Sing me away, back to 1973
Between your devil, and the deep blue sea
I'll sing for you, if you'll sing for me
Visions dance, before my eyes
A single light, my eternal sky.
If there's a God, then there's a devil too.
And we'll need 'em both to sing you back home
Sing me away, among the trees
Sing me away, back to 1973
Between your devil, and the deep blue sea
I'll sing for you, if you'll sing for me
